The top places to have weekends away in the UK!

Who doesn't love staying at home and exploring your own back garden, ok well not quite literally! I've put together a list of some of the best places to go for a weekend away in the UK, I've also spilt it down into regions, so you won't need to travel far to go exploring...

Scotland

Starting at the top of the country, Scotland! Known for its rugged landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture it's home to some of the UK's most iconic landmarks; Loch Ness, Edinburgh Castle, and the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

From the stirring sounds of traditional bagpipe music to the world-famous Highland Games to the rich culinary heritage that includes famous dishes like haggis, neeps and tatties, Cullen skink, and the iconic deep-fried Mars bar. North East

Northumberland, Durham, Teeside and Newcastle

The North East of England is a diverse and fascinating region that stretches from the Scottish border down to North Yorkshire. It's a region that's steeped in history, from the ancient Roman ruins of Hadrian's Wall to the medieval castles of Durham and Northumberland. The North East is also home to some of England's most stunning coastline, including the rugged cliffs of Northumberland and the picturesque fishing villages of the North Yorkshire coast.


It's not just about history and scenery -known for its vibrant cities, including Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland, which offer a lively arts and culture scene, a thriving nightlife, and some of the best shopping in the UK. And for foodies, it's a must-visit destination, with a rich culinary heritage that includes famous dishes like stottie cakes, pease pudding, and the iconic sausage roll.

North West

Cumbria, Lancashire, Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire

Bordered by Scotland to the north, Wales to the west, and the Irish Sea it is a truly unique destination. Home to several vibrant cities, including Manchester, Liverpool, and Chester, which offer a wealth of cultural and historic attractions and excellent shopping. Visit the historic landmarks, museums, and galleries of these cities, or simply soak up the lively atmosphere in one of the many bars and restaurants.

Yorkshire & Humber

North Yorkshire, Humber Area, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire

Explore the ancient city walls of York, stroll through the picturesque streets of Leeds, or enjoy the vibrant arts and culture scene in Sheffield. See the beautiful landscape in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park. West Midlands

Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire

East of England

Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex

Wales

Wales is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world! Home to three national parks - Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons, and Pembrokeshire Coast - each offering a unique landscape of mountains, forests, and coastal paths. With many castle to explore including the impressive Caernarfon Castle and the striking ruins of Tintern Abbey you'll be full of new history knowledge.


In addition to its stunning natural beauty, Wales is also famous for its distinctive culture and traditions with the Welsh language spoken by around 20% of the population. Visit capital city of Cardiff, with its striking Millennium Stadium and historic Cardiff Castle, Gower Peninsula and the picturesque town of Tenby.

The South East is also has some of the UK's most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities - London, the country's capital city, and Brighton, famous for its buzzing arts and music scene. Find yourself a helping of a traditional English cream tea, fresh seafood, and world-famous cheeses.

South West

Gloucestershire, Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall

One of the largest regions in the country with coast views almost all the way round. Check out Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, discover the ancient Roman city of Bath, or enjoy a day trip to the famous stone circle of Stonehenge.

The South West is also one the UK's most popular tourist destinations, including St Ives and Padstow in Cornwall, the historic port city of Bristol, and the charming spa town of Cheltenham.
